Eligibility for a DBS Check

If you are an employer, charity, or organisation located in England or Wales that’s in need of a DBS check for applicants, you can apply for our online system and get fast results.

Individuals can’t request Standard and Enhanced DBS Checks on themselves.

You can only request a Standard DBS check or Enhanced DBS check if you’re an employer, charity, organisation or a licensing body, and the position you are offering involves doing a regulated activity or is included in the Exception Order 1975 of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. We offer you help and information on our DBS check guidance for employers.

DBS Check for Individuals

For Individuals wanting to apply for Basic DBS Checks for themselves and not for a company, we recommend that they do this directly on the UK Government’s website.

DBS Check for Self-Employed People

If you are an individual wanting to get a DBS check for yourself, and you are self-employed, then we have written a guide about how to go about this. You can find how to apply on our DBS Checks for Self Employed People post.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that displays any information held by the police on an applicant, which allows someone to know an individual’s criminal record if they have one.

DBS checks are carried out by employers onboarding staff, and if this is the case for you, our DBS Checks for Employers page will be great to check out.

How Long Does a DBS Check Last?

In short, DBS checks do not have a legal expiration date, only the date that the certificate was issued.

This means that all information displayed on the certificate is only accurate until the date which is displayed.

We have written a full guide on how long a DBS check lasts, where you can read the ins and outs.

How Long Does a DBS Check Take?

The time it takes a DBS Check to be completed and returned depends on the information submitted by the applicant. If they have a very unique name and have lived in the same place all of their lives, it is more likely to be completed faster than someone with a common name and has moved areas alot.

At Aaron’s Department, we process all applications the same day* meaning you can get your results back faster than ever before.

Our support team of DBS Countersignatories is well-experienced, ensuring your application goes through the first time, error-free.

*if sent to us before 4 pm.

Is a DBS Check Transferable Between Organisations?

Mostly yes. DBS checks can only be transferred between organisations if the individual is signed up for the Update Service, which they must have done within 30 days after receiving the initial DBS certificate.

If they are signed up with the update Service, then their DBS check is passable between jobs. The only thing to note is that if the new role they are going into requires a higher DBS Check level, i.e an enhanced rather than a standard, then a new check might need to be done.

Inbuilt Tracking System

Our system has an inbuilt DBS tracking tool, allowing you to check the progress of each DBS application you submit, hassle-free.

You will be updated via email notifications whenever there is a change in the status of your DBS check applications.

You Might Not Need the Tracking System at All!
Thanks to our fast service, we regularly have DBS Certificates results returned in less than 2 hours, so the use of our tracking service might not even be needed. But it’s still there, just in case.

Keeps You Up To Date With Any Unavoidable Delays
Still, some of them can take longer. If there is a problem, it’s usually with delays with an individual police force. That’s why we have an inbuilt tracking system – to let you know of these delays and keep you informed about what’s happening.

How Much is a DBS Check?

The cost of a DBS check will depend on the level of check requested. A Basic or Standard DBS Check will cost from £18, whereas an Enhanced DBS Check will cost from £38.

Our DBS check service is not only quick and reliable, but it’s also extremely affordable. You can get DBS checks with Admin fees from as little as £2.83, and for payments made in advance, you will receive further discounts. The more checks you need, the bigger the discount.

Unlike other companies, we offer a free, fast registration so you can begin your applications today!

Further information on our only DBS check service prices can be found here.

The CRB is now the DBS

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.

A DBS check is a criminal record check carried out by employers or organisations on prospective applicants, current staff members, visitors, volunteers, prospective foster carers, adoption applicants etc. to check their eligibility to work with or be in contact with children or vulnerable adults.

Our online DBS application service removes the printing and posting of standard paper forms which is more environmentally friendly and also significantly speeds up the process, getting applicants into work quicker. All applications and payments are sent securely via encryption for the privacy of information and security.
